RE: Auctions

I am fortunate to live 35 miles south of a large city the has a large auction house. Have a large repo/ clearing house site

on the net. I only bid on skids of stuff and not individual items. I have been able to get lots consisting of 7 Dell computers,

14 towers, 32 Dells, 6 monitors, 2 monitors & 2 typewriters, 7 computer monitors, 2 skids of 11 monitors & 2 tv's , 8 cell

phones, 12 cell phones, in the last three months.

I also have been fortunate enough to find a few jewels in the rough that I was able to fix up and sell on the same site.

I don't know about other peoples areas. Sometimes local towns and schools have old office equipment they auction off.

A person has to check the net, papers etc, to find out.

For me this was a good way to jump into the e scrap. The area I am in is tight. I have only found a couple TV's and microwaves

laying around. So I went the action route to get into it and keep out of the snow.

I was unemployed for about a year and it really set things back for me. The wife works, but she has an "on call" type of jobs so there was no financial security. In the time I had I did some work here and there, but mostly kept up with my thrifting hobby. Since I could find things and had an unhealthy habit of taking things apart, I began to notice the sheer amount of junk laying around and that people literally threw out. Since my finances were pretty lean I had to do something. I went around and started picking what ever I could find. So whatever I couldn't sell, I scrapped. I have an "on call" full time job myself now, but in my down time, I scrap. I go and talk, and handshake, and look around where ever I go to find a score of things to take to the scrap yard or sell online. Literally I'm doing whatever I can to help make ends meet. Life is funny that way.

I can't find a good job to pay all my bills.

After I graduated, I thought to myself. I have an advanced degree and a good work ethic ... should find something soon. I did but it was as an adjunct professor which pays exactly spit.

I have massive school loans and I need a second job or ideally a good paying full time job.
But so far, no luck :(

Then a friend told me about scrapping metal. I knew about it but never really looked into it. Until now.
I never thought I would dumpster dive, and be happy to do it to find buried treasure but it's like I was born to do this.

well scrapping
a) Keeps me busy and out of trouble
b) pays for itself or better
c)has plenty of room for advancement
D) and keeps my dream of entrepenurship alive
I love the person who smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress, and grows brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but whose heart is firm, and conscience approves the conduct, will pursue thier principles unto death.

To make up the extra income lost. Plus I seem to be helping quite a bit of people along the way.

Hi,
I started to recycle beyond cans and plastic bottles a few months ago.I had an old TV that met it's end of life. I had no idea what to do with, it so I put it out on the curb for the trash truck.
In the morning i came out of the house and the back of the tv was off and all of the guts were gone. WTF. From that eye opening event I started to scrap TV etc. It has been fun tearing
stuff apart and collecting copper and other cool stuff. I will use the scrap to fund a hobby and possibly to save for a truck to expand my collections. I look at it as fun, but don't think it will
become something that will make me well off. That is unless I am to take it to a new level. That is where I would like to go. I am not sure how to do this, but ask if someone might share
your knowledge and wisdom. i can be reached at hildeant@yahoo.com. Thanks, Tony

I do it since I cannot work, love taking things apart and have made ok money doing it and if I'm able to move in the next 6 months or less I'll be able to do more than I have now and will have the room going to be looking for a 2+ car garage so I can let the wife park on one side and I can scrap on the other. Its helped pay bills that were do. Gives me something to do other than sit around the house all day.

You have lost me with this????????
Scrapping because you can not work??????????????????????????????????????????
What does that mean? Scrapping is work.
Do you mean that you are collecting some sort of disability and scrap?
That would mean that you are completly capable of working and playing the system

I do it because I have been furlowed for the last 4 years and need to supliment my income. I have had and lost part time jobs because of scheduling issues , but at least I will say I CAN WORK. and more than willing to do so.
I may be taking what you sad out of context but it is something I see way too often, someone collecting disability for a bad back, bum knee or other concocted ailment but then is plenty healthy enough to toss 50# at a time into the back of their truck while living off my tax dollars.
Now if you told me you were scrapping and dodging taxes I could completly accept that but knowing that I will have to work til the day I die and most likely never being able to collect any of the SS that I have paid into for the last 35+ years just burns right through me.
Rust junkie, you can delete this if you feel the need to I just had to say it.
